Low voltage overhead insulated cable assist rural power application in Tanzania

2026/08/26

Tanzania is located in the tropical region of East Africa, with high temperature throughout the year, divided into dry and rainy seasons. In rainy season, rainstorm is concentrated, and the site is prone to ponding; The soil is mostly sandy red soil, and the stability of the foundation deteriorates when exposed to rainwater; The wild vegetation is lush, and thunderstorms are frequent. High requirements are placed on the UV resistance, waterproof insulation performance, and anti erosion ability of power cables and tower foundations, making it suitable to adopt a construction plan of low-voltage overhead insulated cables and cast-in-place concrete pole foundations.

The existing power grid infrastructure in the vast rural areas of Tanzania is weak, and some villages have aging power supply lines. Bare wires are affected by trees and thunderstorm environments, resulting in frequent failures. Residents’ daily electricity consumption and small-scale agricultural processing electricity cannot be stably guaranteed. In order to improve the power supply conditions for local rural residents and implement the rural distribution network upgrade and renovation project, the main content of the project is to build new rural low-voltage overhead power lines, install steel power poles, replace traditional bare wires with low-voltage overhead insulated cables, cover multiple surrounding villages and towns, solve the power supply needs of local residents for lighting, household equipment, and small workshops, and improve the reliability and safety level of regional power supply. The project site is located in a tropical rural area with abundant rainfall during the rainy season, moist soil, and dense vegetation around the village. High requirements are placed on the weather resistance, short circuit prevention, and leakage prevention performance of outdoor power lines.

Select low-voltage overhead insulated cables as the main cables for the line. Compared to traditional bare wires, overhead insulated cables have an insulation protection layer on the outer layer, which can effectively avoid short circuits and tripping caused by tree branches touching or wind, rain, and foreign objects overlapping, reducing electric shock safety hazards. It is very suitable for rural environments with houses and trees interlaced; The cable has excellent resistance to ultraviolet radiation, moisture and aging, and can adapt to the local hot and rainy tropical climate, reducing the pressure of later operation and maintenance. Steel poles are used as supporting components, and the foundation of the poles is cast in situ with concrete to resist rainwater erosion during the rainy season and ensure the stability of the tower.
